Take a rest from technology and reconnect with the natural world while you learn about the mental health benefits of nature-based wellness

About this event

Lockdown and resulting isolation during COVID-19 forced us all to use technology to connect, communicate, work, and entertain ourselves. While technology has its benefits, we may have lost connection with ourselves, the natural world, and the sense of peace and presence we get from being outside. During this evening retreat we will realign ourselves with the calm and quiet of the outdoors and learn about the science behind the therapeutic effects of being in nature.

There will be a series of nature-based activities along the hike led by a Registered Counselling Therapist with a specialization in nature-informed outdoor therapy. Everyone will have the option to share their thoughts and experiences with connecting with nature throughout (no obligation - share as much or as little as you'd like!).

Please note that a basic level of fitness is required as the hike is on uneven terrain (the trail poses accessibility issues/hazards) and there will be times where you may want to sit during an activity. Please bring water and a snack (herbal tea will be available to those who are interested, but you are welcome to bring your own warm beverage too), proper supportive shoes for rugged terrain, and layered clothing. You may also bring a backpack chair/cushion (for seated activities) if you would like.

In the event of bad weather, the event will be postponed to May 26 at the same time and location.
